As of now, the NCAA has become the unofficial NBDL for the NBA. Schools dish out thousands of dollars every year to have the best players play basketball at top schools. In turn, players stay in school for one year, drop out and go into the league. This bugs people like Mike Krzyzewski and I. We believe that if you enroll in school, it should be a commitment for a degree, not a championship. It seems selfish to me in a world where millions of citizens are willing to work hard and earn a degree but don’t have the financial means.

Then again, who should we place the blame on? If players could go straight to the league after high school we wouldn’t have this problem. David Stern is the one that should be stoned. Although he could be blamed, I’m on his side. He says he does it to develop players but don’t be fooled. He wants more educated players to somehow to decrease thuggery. It can’t be proven but I bet it’s a motive. A good amount of his time is spent on fines for cursing and fighting. A college atmosphere could somehow solve some things in his mind (Don’t tell him about the NFL). Whatever his rationale was, it persuaded him to put the one year rule into effect: which forces kids to abuse the college system. Now we can properly enter Brandon Jennings.

Brandon Jennings was the first guy to not bother with college because he wasn’t getting a degree. So, I just flip flopped. I wanted some alternative form of preparation but I had harsh words when Brandon Jennings left for Italy. That seems like the perfect solution. I don’t have to be bugged about guys abusing college when they skip college for Europe.

Ultimately, I think guys should enroll in school, get a degree, then get drafted. Alternatively, if you know you aren’t going to finish, just don’t go. Skip a step and make more money than most college graduates will ever make.

When I think of the blues, I picture an old man sitting in a rocking chair fiddeling on a beat up guitar. His hands represent the quality of his lifeline: scarred and callused beyond belief. Behind him, a house is in bad shape although it is complimented by sunny and warming New Orleans sky.

The blues is unique because it expresses a dark mood for the purpose of creating a lighter mood. As Michigan propels into the winter this year, I feel the dark mood.

The physical darkness of the winter really takes a toll on people. The days continuously get shorter and colder while memories of sunny days fade away. This whole phenomenon is characterized by a disorder called SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Wikepedia explains:

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD), also known as winter depression or winter blues, is a mood disorder in which people who have normal mental health throughout most of the year experience depressive symptoms in the winter or, less frequently, in the summer,^[1] repeatedly, year after year.

It also explains that it can be treated through light therapy. For example, having well lit rooms in a home apparently makes a real difference.

The blues picture is painted even more with the economic crisis slapping everyone around. Everybody knows somebody who has lost a job. On a better note, this economic crisis hasn’t hit everyone. Some communities seem unphased with gaudy jewelry and practices such as tossing money in the air; otherwise known as “making it rain”. You need to show this forbearance and make it rain in your life.

Although it is nearly impossible we have to stay healthy to combat this seasonal blues song. Not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. We take care of our physical health most, but the other three are equally important.

brandonjb advises a few quick fixes for winter blues:

Pray everyday
Communicate your opinions everyday
Engage in deep thought alone everyday
Play basketball everyday

Don’t let your winter become a blues song. Use the winter to give yourself that light mood of the old man.

I felt as if we were made for each other. We united for one cause: to produce a semi- updated blog that was scarcely read. Life was good.

Then one day our relationship was tarnished. It struck like lightning! A new site had mugged me and stole my heart. A young trendy site that boasted indie bands and a the key to its heart. It offered me seamless control of my whole site. uber.com blew me a kiss, and in it was packaged a blog.

I moved all of my things. I transferred quickly. The guilt of leaving pained me. In a flash, I was gone. I let WordPress keep my old blogs. I could never completely cut it off. I wanted to keep WordPress. Only as a backup though. Somewhere to go when I needed to vent or let something go. Something to fall back on.

Meanwhile, my new love uber gave me everything I needed. My views jumped. I was starting to become attached; what was once just a friendly account turned very serious.

Then that day came.

I went to uber.com to update my blog and I read these crushing words:

We’re moving to a new home.
Sorry for the inconvenience we should be up soon.
Sign up for notifications here.

Those words gave me no direction. I had nowhere to blog.

All of this time WordPress had been strong. Thriving without a thought of me. The site that I treated so wrong, seemed so right.

It invited me back with open arms. I always thought I was the strong one, but WordPress didn’t need me to thrive. I needed it.

Now I’m back with WordPress. I just hope our future outshines our past. Who knows what this blog will produce. I’m just glad to be in with WordPress.

October 22nd

I’ll be up all night doing homework so why not do a live blog? 

12:29: As of right now I gave up on finding ways to get a solution manual so I’m regretfully working through my calculus homework. I’ve been distracted all evening by the Large Hadron Collider story. Some people think that it will mess up and create a black hole sucking all existence into nothing. I wonder who will make a movie about it first. 

1:09: I just talked to Bianca. I hate to break it to you but, freshman will be freshman. Bro’s will be Bro’s. I hate to hear her cry. I have few sections left though. It sounds like Ray and Lester are asleep. Or it sounds like they aren’t awake at least.

1:21: I hear my neighbor through the wall on the phone.

1:22: Somebody just grunted. 

2:09: I’m losing the faith. I’m strongly considering Wal-Mart for energy drinks. 

2:37: I quit good night

Right now I’m under Wheeler watching an old Chappelle’s Show. I’m waiting on Bianca and Lester to get here for Lunch: then I’ll catch the bus home. I need to get books sometime soon.

I’m so distracted right now.

OAK PARK, MI- I’m being real right now. I watched the best movie I have ever seen last night. Frankly, Batman: The Dark Knight, fulfilled my movie going needs for the rest of the year. Maybe even the rest of my life. Who cares if it was 3 hours? It had the perfect formula for greatness.

Wait! Don’t run to the comments section crying blasphemy. I have much respect for Casablanca, Rudy and Norbit, but this movie gave me the best cinematic experience possible. Why? There are a few reasons:

1. I went at the midnight showing.
Midnight shows are the perfect atmosphere. Everyone is having fun before the movie. Dead silent during the movie. No distractions.
2. Batman has been my boy since 1988.
He would kick Supermans butt: even while not being super.
3. It catered to my interests.
Geek technology, action, problem solving, lofts in the sky and Morgan Freeman.

Also, not only did it keep me at the edge of my seat with the storyline and interesting twists, Heath Ledger’s role as the Joker created one of the best movie villains ever. It was disturbing watching him because he was so out of his mind. He really gave the impression of someone being truly brain sick. The beauty and greatness of the role was how he balanced his mental illness and stunning intelligence. Heath Ledger twisted the perfect blend of crazy as hell and insanely genius. To me, that’s how the Joker should be.

If you haven’t seen it yet go see it. You’ll be set for a long while.
