The noose incident is crazy. I wish I was an insider to find out more details. I don’t want to start slandering anyone until I find out the guys reasoning, but this is what I can say now.

When I first heard about it, I envisioned a big race riot at the U.C. Well, lets start at the beginning.
In the Jena 6 era, a number of incidents all over the country were starting to arise. Not long ago we had to hear about the noose that was hung on a professors door in New York. Then last week, Rao’s diversity plan was foiled when nooses were found hanging in the ET building at Central Michigan University. This incident set the student population on fire, causing students from all backgrounds to lose focus on what the university had “attempted” to promote. Then at a march on Preston St., students protesting the earlier incident were headed off by another group protesting the unfair sentence of a student from their organization. Tempers flared, and to make a long story short, it ended with fire, destruction, and water hoses.

That’s what I envisioned.
It sounds funny but I don’t know how far away it is. In my own research, I’ve found that many minorities are fed up with the problems that this university struggles with. The anti-Muslim newsletters and the noose problem aren’t the first time the university had to deal with the D word. You can only blow up a balloon so much before it pops: thats going to happen if incidents such as this keep happening. Also, many students on campus try to justify these attacks with alternate reasoning. This is what blows my mind the most. There was a link in the beginning of this blog that proves my point perfectly. A group called for an FBI probe. These highly educated people start writing about how everything is inconsistent with Jena 6, and how marching is silly.

First of all, I don’t want to hear anything about consistency when talking about Jena 6. Consistency would mean that the student that threatened a young man with a gun would be in jail. The student that hung the nooses would get in school suspension for three days. Don’t talk about Jena 6 and consistency, because there is none. Secondly, marching is one of the most effective ways to get change on a large scale. I believe this guy wanted them to do it the standard way. The standard way to get change on this campus is to meet with President Rao, have him write a statement, and watch it work. It’s obvious how that’s working. You have to shake the campus up if you want change. If you don’t, then everyone will lean back get comfortable. After that, nothing will get changed.

I truly hope these race problems in America change. I also hope there is no riot at the U.C. If thanksgiving break wasn’t here it might have been. I’ll conclude with saying that there is nothing new under the sun; that makes me wonder if things like this will ever stop happening. College campus across the country have these individuals that claim to be educated but make opinions only based on turning negatives to positives and positives to negatives. Thinking critically is a skill that we college students are blessed with and I believe that we should start using it right.

Actually, today was pretty average. I needed a title for this blog; I picked that. Anyway, I haven’t gave my spill since November 4th so I’ll have to play a little catch up. I was going to start with today’s events, but I wont move through with any chronological relevance. So lets begin:

Veterans Day
I’m not the most patriotic person on the Earth. Nor am I huge on the”bring home our troops”movement. I’m not a person to get into a anti-war debate, or scoff at someone for disrespecting the country. Although this is not one of my main points of interest, I respect the veterans and the current soldiers as much as anyone. Soldiers have a great responsibility to protect a country full of people who don’t understand the great price that people pay to make sure we can bicker about irrelevant things everyday. Young men and women experience things that some could only imagine for our right to go to Wayside. Every once in a while we have to step back and look at the whole picture. I think we focus too much on our orange chicken in the Dragon Express of the world : instead of trying the whole menu. It’s hard to understand what’s happening on the other side of the world without looking at the media critically. CNN shows us an explosion but doesn’t show the effects. They show us a kid but doesn’t tell us his story. I’m not blaming CNN for ignorance. I just saying that media should do a better job on showing us whats really happening. Tila Tequila is good sometimes, but I want something real every once in a while. Before I write an essay, I’ll conclude by saying I appreciate the veterans for making sure I can write this blog. But the biggest reason I appreciate them is, I don’t have to pull one trigger.

Playoff Time
Reservations for Six ironically has a game at 7:00 tomorrow. We play a 4-0 team so, we really need to Bring it On.
Number 1
The Boston Celtics are number one on the power rankings today. They are still undefeated, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to pick them for anything yet. I’m not sure how the Celtics story will progress throughout the season because everyone is so new. It scares me. If things aren’t going good by the all star break, I say they just throw Tracy Mcgrady on the squad too. Then everybody can get a chance at a ring.

Today
The evening and the morning were the first day. The evening and the morning was today too which really means that the day begins at sunset. Therefore this day I’m about to blog about was actually yesterday. Yesterday, I didn’t really do anything special. Lago brought up her NES/ SEGA and hooked it up in our room. That added to my retro sexy geek appeal. Sometimes I wish I was Sonic. Running around. Spinning all fast like. Whatever. Seven people from the radical group Hamas died in a plane crash today. Add it to the sum of Palestinians that seem to grow exponentially. Back in America, I haven’t seen or talked to Bianca all day! We decided to not see each other for at least a day so we don’t get sick of each other. Good plan maybe I’ll go visit her roommates I wont see her right? haha The Popes coming to the US of A and I hope he doesn’t try to take over the country and make us go to church on Sunday. Cause thats wrong.

Prayer
Some people from some church I forgot came around and asked for prayer requests. I think that that’s a great thing. I think with a lot of dedication and prayer this campus can make a change. Sometimes I think of ways I can somehow help the campus in terms of spirituality but I never can think of anything on a huge scale. It’s especially hard when there aren’t many people of my faith on campus. Anyway, I believe that everyone should pray regularly and spend at least an hour with God daily. You have to make an effort to have a relationship with God to ensure that you live life at the fullest potential. People think it’s difficult to obey commandments and live the way man is supposed to live but when the love relationship is there, this is easy. But to the people who came through, thanks. I’ll pray for you.
